Brand new official Minecraft community events from one of the producers of MINECON
24 August 2017 – GAME Digital Plc today announced Multiplay has secured the license to run BlockFest, official Minecraft community events that will bring the best of official Minecraft experiences to local communities around the world. Multiplay has been working with Mojang on the production of the annual Minecraft convention MINECON between 2012 and 2016, trebling attendees to 12,000.
BlockFest will complement MINECON Earth, an interactive live show that will launch on 18 November 2017 with an interactive 90-minute livestream. Minecraft, known for its pixelated building blocks and open-ended play, has become the second best-selling standalone video game of all time, with more than 120 million copies sold to date.
Multiplay has been delivering world class events for two decades with Insomnia Gaming Festival now the biggest gaming event in the UK. It recently acquired the franchise to Lego® fan event BRICKLIVE, delivering a series of highly successful regional events hosted across London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Belfast.
Stewart Fletcher, SVP US Business Development & Special Projects at Multiplay commented: “We’re hugely excited to secure the right to run BlockFest building on the huge success we’ve been able to bring to MINECON over the past five years. We understand what is needed to engage a huge community of fans, because we are part of that community.”
BlockFest, an official Minecraft Community Event, will be announcing its format and location soon. Officially endorsed activities will include authentic in-person Minecraft experiences, the chance to meet favourite YouTubers, modders, map makers and streamers, and a range of unique tournaments, costume contests and fan led activities.
A spokesperson from Mojang said: “We’re delighted to extend our relationship with Multiplay. They’ve proven their ability to connect with our fans and offer authentic in-person Minecraft experiences that bring our worlds to life, while delivering real impact for our brand.”
